Although we had always dreamed of a wedding on the beach in the warmth of the sun, our winter wedding in New Jersey couldn't have been more perfect. To be able to bring our closest family and friends together in one place was truly special. God has blessed us with a each other, but more importantly with loving and supportive families.
Having pretty much pulled this entire wedding together for us, my parents were our honorary wedding planners. We chose the DIY approach, and boy did this wedding keep us busy! At times, it seemed as though planning our own wedding was a full-time job. Although it was hard work and consumed all of our spare time, I was in love with every detail. From the painted crates to the mercury votives, it was everything I had envisioned and more. The best part about the planning process was being my own personal graphic designer. I was able to design our own invitations, as well as all of our wedding day stationery. Not only did this get me excited for our own wedding, but it also got me excited to start working with other brides in helping them leave a paper trail of pretty on their big day.
The Icona in Avalon, NJ served as the perfect location to host our special day. With the convenience of hotel rooms and a stunning venue space, The Icona was ideal. The beautiful white and blue decor served as an excellent backdrop for our wedding color pallet consisting of light blue, navy, white and silver. We opted out of the traditional sit down dinner and chose a more casual approach with open seating, a mixed floor plan and serving stations during the dinner hour. The Icona flawlessly executed our vision of creating a fun, relaxing ambiance for our celebration. In addition to the Icona's beauty, the staff consisted of the most kind-hearted and patient people I have ever met in the hospitality industry. From day one, they were beyond wonderful to work with.
I have to take a minute to brag about some of our vendors that truly rocked it. Our photographer, Nick Finochio, did an amazing job in capturing all the details of our wedding. Although we did not hire a videographer for the entire evening (which we highly regret), we have so many beautiful photos to look back on that tell the story of our day. Nick's work is flawless, but I have to say that the candid shots are my favorite! And oh, the flowers. Let's talk about the flowers. My father-in-law made a gorgeous standing cross for the alter and our florist covered the cross in the most beautiful arrangement of greens, blues and whites. It was absolutely stunning! The Manic Botanic went above and beyond in decorating with pretty florals that brought a pop of color to the venue space.
As cliche as this sounds, it was an unforgettable evening. There were no major hiccups and most importantly, all of our loved ones were in attendance. The night flew by and like most brides and grooms, we didn't even get the chance to eat. We would go back and do it all again just to pig out on the yummy fried pickles! Reality hit us hard on the way home that weekend, but we realized just how lucky we are in more ways than one.
